About
About Weight Science
An independent site about the physiology of body weight. Here is who writes it, how a page gets made, and which sources we trust.
Short answers
The longer version follows.
Who writes Weight Science?
Weight Science is written and edited by the Weight Science editorial team. We do not use individual bylines or expert profiles. AI writing tools help us draft, and every number is checked against its cited source before a page goes live.
Does Weight Science sell anything?
Weight Science sells nothing. There are no ads, no affiliate links and no products on the site. If that ever changes, the affected pages will say so clearly at the top.
Is this medical advice?
Weight Science publishes general information about research, not medical advice. Decisions about your health, diet or medicines belong with a clinician who knows you. See our medical disclaimer.
What we cover, and what we leave out
Weight Science covers the physiology of body weight: why weight loss slows, why the scale jumps around, how the body defends its weight, and how to read the studies behind those claims. Our first guides focus on one question many people ask: why the scale stopped moving.
We leave out diet plans, supplements and prescription weight loss drugs. Those topics need a clinician, a pharmacist or a dietitian who can see your history, and a site like this one cannot do that responsibly.
Who we are, and why there is no named author
Weight Science is an independent editorial project, and the byline on every page is the editorial team. We chose not to put a person's name and credentials on pages that do not have one person behind them. You will not find invented experts, "medically reviewed by" badges or testimonials here.
Instead of asking you to trust a name, we show our working. Every number on the site sits next to the study it came from, with the year and, where it matters, the number of people studied, and every page ends with a source list linking to PubMed or the official page.
Editorial policy
Each guide on Weight Science goes through the same steps before it is published.
- We start from questions people actually search for, and check what the current search results already answer well and badly.
- We read the primary research: at minimum the full abstract, and the full text where it is openly available.
- Every number gets a named source. If we cannot find a source we can open, the claim does not go in.
- We say plainly when evidence is thin or missing. Our whoosh effect guide exists partly because no study has tested the idea.
- We describe who was studied (age, sex, trained lifters or people with obesity), because results from one group do not automatically apply to another.
The "updated" date on a page changes only when the content does. We aim to review every guide at least every six months and sooner when a major study is published.

Sources policy
Weight Science ranks evidence by how directly it answers the question. In order of preference:
| Type | Examples | How we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Systematic reviews and meta-analyses | Pooled analyses of randomised trials | Preferred answer when one exists |
| Randomised trials and controlled feeding studies | Diet break trials; inpatient metabolic studies | Main evidence for cause and effect |
| Observational and mechanistic studies | Home-weighing cohorts; biopsy studies | Patterns and mechanisms, with their limits stated |
| Public health agencies | NIH and NIDDK, CDC, NHS | Clinical guidance and when to see a doctor |
| Narrative reviews | Expert summaries | Context only, never as the sole proof of a number |
We do not cite press releases on their own, supplement or drug company material, or health articles that do not name their sources.
Independence and corrections
Weight Science has no advertisers or sponsors, so no commercial relationship shapes what we write. If we ever add advertising or affiliate links, we will disclose them on the pages where they appear and keep them out of the evidence sections.
When we find an error, we fix it and change the page's updated date. See the contact page for how to reach us.
